Dear Backers and Friends,
First of all, the good news: the QC25 model has arrived in the DHL delivery facility in Fremont. I expect them to be in our office by the end of today. We are ready to fulfill all your orders now. I apologize in advance for the delay.
Thank you all for your feedback. I'd like to address on some issues some of you have encountered.
Quality Assurance
In the first batch we shipped, we relied random testing at the manufacturing facility and we also conducted our own random testing here at our California office. That was not good enough. Then we switched to testing every single unit before we shipped it out. We have a 3 person team and use iPhones/iPads with the following headphones
- V-MODA crossfade M-100 (3.5mm model)
- Bose Quiet Comfort 15 (3.5mm and QC15 models)
- Audio-Technica ATH-M50x (2.5mm model)
- Bose Quiet Comfort 25 (QC25 model)
It took us a lot of time and effort, but it is worth of it.
We're doing our best to deliver the best product to you. We may not get things right the first time, but we won't stop trying to make them right. Thank you for your understanding.
PSB M4U 2 Headphones
It's reported that the BTunes works fine in the passive mode, but in the active and noise cancelling mode, there is no music in the headphones. We tested it, and also got in touch with the PSB manufacturer. We've identified the issue. We hope to make some changes in the manufacturing parts and design. We will make exchanges for you. If you have PSB M4U 2, please get in touch with us first. I don't have a time line yet unfortunately, but I will see it through to get it working on your PSB M4U 2.
Audio-Technica ATH-M40x Headphones
It turned out that the QC25 model works better with ATH-M40x. We will make exchange for you right now. If you use BTunes with ATH-M40x, please get in touch with us.
Sennheiser HD 598 Headphones
The BTunes 2.5mm model works really well with Sennheiser Momentum, Urbanite, and some other HD series. It turned out that it has some issues with HD 598. We are looking into it, and will have a solution soon.
Bose Quiet Comfort 3 Headphones
It's reported that the BTunes has some problems on these headphones. We are looking into it and will update it asap.
Other Headphones?
We started to design the BTunes with these headphones
- Bose Quiet Comfort 15, Bose SoundTrue
- Beats Studio
- Sennheiser Momentum
- V-MODA crossfade series
Does BTunes work with other headphones that you have? We really don't know until we test it. A few days ago, one user showed me that the BTunes (3.5mm) works on his "Sony MDR-1A DAC" headphones. If you happen to have other brands of headphones, and they are compatible, please email us ([email protected]) a photo and let us know the brand and model. We appreciate your help.
Best regards,

BTunes usage tips

Dear Backers and Friends,
I have received tremendous positive responses from many of you. I'm so happy that you enjoyed using them. And I'm very proud of my team to bring the BTunes to you.
We received some questions/comments about where you can use the BTunes. I'd like to make some comments and provide some tips for your reference.
Mac
Mac supports Bluetooth really well. You shouldn't have any issue there at all. If you use certain software, as long as the software uses standard Bluetooth protocol, it will work.
Microsoft Windows
Many Windows systems don't have bluetooth built-in, or they don't support stereo streaming, hands free call or remote control. You can buy off-shelf USB bluetooth adapters (just a little bit bigger than the USB itself) to fit your Windows PC. Make sure it supports A2DP, HFP and AVRCP protocol. On one of the Windows 7 laptop, I have Cirago bluetooth 4.0 USB mini adapter, and it works well (I have no relation with manufacturer).
Cars
You can plug it in the aux port on your car (for 3.5mm model or QC15). Listen to music or make hands free phone calls.
For QC25 or 2.5mm models, you'll need to have a "2.5mm female to 3.5mm male" audio adapter. There are a few available on amazon for a few dollars.
Home Entertainment Center
If there's a need, I encourage you to try it. Find the 3.5mm audio input on your system, and give it a spin.
You can actually buy some 2.5mm/3.5mm adapters with various length of cables to reach those hard to reach spots on your system.
Battery
The BTunes will shut itself off if it is disconnected with your device for more than 5 minutes to conserve battery. For example, you listen with BTunes at home with your phone, when you take your phone and go out for a walk, the BTunes will disconnect after you move away from its range (~ 33ft). If you come back within 5 min, the BTunes will automatically connect with your phone; otherwise it will shut itself off.
Next track/previous track
When you listen to music, double click the button on the BTuness will skip to the next track. Long press (~ 2 seconds, you'd hear a beep) will move you back to the previous track, however, this behavior syncs with the device you connect to. If you use iPhone/iPad, "previous track" means 2 things. 1) If your current play time on the current track is less than 3 seconds, "previous track" will get you to the previous track; 2) If your current play time on the current track is more than 3 seconds, "previous track" will get you to the beginning of the current track. To get to previous track, you'd do two quick "previous track".
Reconnection to your phone
Let's say that you turn on the BTunes, but the bluetooth on your phone is off. So what do you do? You turn on bluetooth on your phone, and a single press on the BTunes button will connect your phone with the BTunes.
Siri/Google Now
You'd initiate the feature on your phone first, and then you can talk to the BTunes. In the prototype we had this feature on the button, but the consensus during the Kickstarter campaign is that "next track/previous track" for a music device is more important. We had to drop it as there are only so many things you can do on one button.
If you have any issue at all, email me at [email protected]
Enjoy your headphones (wireless) with the BTunes.

ps. I use Bose Quiet Comfort 15 for traveling, and listen to ATH-M50x when I don't travel.

Dear Backers and Friends,
We have a shipment of BTunes 2.5mm model coming, barring any issues at the Customs, it will be here early next week. We will be able to ship them out to you. You should have received a confirmation email a few days ago.
We also have a limited quantity of QC25 model in the shipment too. I'm sorry that I can only ship to some of you. I sent out a confirmation email to a group of you a few days ago.
More QC25 units will come soon. Our tentative schedule is for the manufacturer to finish assembly by the end of August. I will send confirmation email to you as soon as I'm sure of the shipment would come. I really appreciate your patience.
In a nutshell, as long as you don't have QC25 model in your order (with apologies to QC25 backers), we will be able to fulfill it next week.
Best regards,
dp
