Dear Backers and Friends,

We finally received the shipment last Friday (July 31, 2015) from DHL after 4 day delay in the US Customs and we've shipped all 3.5mm and QC15 models to you. I expect you to receive them in the next couple of days or weeks (international). Thank you for your support and patience.

I received a notice from our manufacturing partner that the 2.5mm model and QC25 models will be ready to ship to us on August 7, 2015. It's expected to arrive here in a few days. We should be able to ship them out to you either this weekend or early next week. It turns out that the DHL routes its shipment from China through Hong Kong. The shipment will go through three Customs: China, Hong Kong and finally the US. Any hiccup will delay the shipment. I have signed up for SMS alert from DHL to monitor the shipment :-).

Once 2.5mm and QC25 models of BTunes arrive, we will rush them out to you for all the following combo orders:

• 2.5mm or QC25 models
• combo of 2.5mm/3.5mm/QC15/QC25/Transmitter

Dear Backers and Friends,

Just want to give you a quick update, our shipment via DHL is stuck at the Customs at Los Angeles since yesterday afternoon.  I just got off the phone with a rep at DHL who will do some research to see what is holding up the shipment at the airport. I hope that they release the goods soon so DHL will deliver to our Fremont office.

We are working to prepare to fulfill the following orders or the combination of these:

• 3.5mm model of BTunes
• QC15 model of BTunes
• aptX low latency transmitters

I will update schedule for 2.5mm and QC25 models as soon as I have more info.

Dear Backers and Friends,

Thank you all for your patience. We are almost there.

Our manufacturing partner is gearing up for assembly as of now. Barring any last minute issues, the first batch of the BTunes and low latency transmitter will be ready to ship to us at Fremont, CA on July 27th; and more will be shipped to us a few days later. To save time, we'll use DHL to air ship to us, which will take 2-3 days. As soon as we receive them, we'll start shipping to you. The general shipping schedule order will be

• 3.5mm model
• Bose QC15 model
• 2.5mm model
• Bose QC25 model

We will use USPS service to ship the BTunes and transmitters to you.

Preproduction done, mass production date set.

Dear Backers and Friends,

I'd like to update you on the following three issues

• Preproduction
• Mass production
• A small batch (ready to go)

We finally finished the preproduction phase, and our next phase is the mass production.

Preproduction

The preproduction went really well. We identified a few areas that may go wrong in the assembly process, and the final assembly process is a manual of 40 steps.

Mass Production

As mentioned in the last update, the process leading to mass production is the following

• preproduction
• preproduction certified
• purchase raw materials for mass production
• negotiate a date with the manufacturer
• mass production

We know that it will take time for the raw material to come in from other suppliers, sometimes the lead time is 6 to 7 weeks long. As soon as we started the preproduction phase, we began to place orders for all the raw materials. As of now, all materials will come in about 4 weeks. We negotiated with the manufacturer for assembly line time slot, and the tentatively date is July 20, 2015. It's not guaranteed, and it may move ahead or back for a few days depending on a slew of other factors and the assembly line condition.

I'm asking for your patience with us. I understand that our initial estimate was for delivery in May, and we did our best to push for June delivery to you all. We are fortunate that we are in the home stretch now, there's no technical issues to deal with. We expect all the raw materials will be of the same quality as we had in the preproduction.

Initial delivery

We received a small batch of the BTunes yesterday (Monday, June 15, 2015) from preproduction which made 100 units. Over half of all units were tested to the extreme conditions, so they are not fit for distribution. They are kept at the manufacturer's location.

This small batch is good to go for some of you. I'm ready to ship. These are for models of 3.5mm (15 units), 2.5mm (24 units), and QC25 (3 units) and a few units for media which helped us to publicize the project during the BTunes' Kickstarter campaign.

I don't pretend that I know the fairest way to distribute these units. I think that a random drawing is a good way to start. What do you think of it?

I'm going to lock down on BackerKit.com by the end of day tomorrow (June 17). Hopefully we can start to ship before this weekend.

Dear Backers and Friends,

Here's a quick update on the mould and preproduction.

Our mould traveled back and forth between its maker and its user a few times. I'm so happy to tell you, we got it through. Here are some photos of the shells made with the repaired mould.

 And we made some more, 100 units to be exact.

Preproduction

We will fully assemble 100 units tomorrow, and then we will go through a battery of reliability tests on them. If there's any serious issue, we'll find a solution. If everything goes smoothly, we'll move to the mass production and shipping to California. 

Mass Production

Normally the mass production begins after we sign off the final report on the reliability test of the preproduction, and the manufacturer will start to order materials, electronic and mechanical, packaging material, printed material and a whole bunch of others. It takes time for the buyers to purchase them from other manufacturers in the supply chain. The lead time may take up to 6 weeks. In the last couple of weeks, we made a decision to purchase all materials that deemed not to be show stoppers as soon as possible. For example, we finalized our design of the package, quick start guide, warranty, registration card, so we ordered them from the print shop. We also have to contend with our manufacturer's other clients, we work very hard to push the manufacturer to schedule time for us on the assembly line.

Our objective is to ship the BTunes in June if everything goes smoothly, and to deliver them into your hands and on your headphones. 

I will update you on the result of the preproduction soon. Stay tuned.
